6 Chargers Reach Double Figures in Season-Opening Victory at Moraine Valley

Sophomore guard Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) scored 16 points to lead six Chargers in double figures as the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team opened its season with an 88-73 victory at Moraine Valley on Tuesday night.
The Chargers (1-0) shot a scorching 58 percent from the field (29 of 50), making 21 of their 33 2-point attempts. Sandburg also went 22 for 29 from the free-throw line, with Gowan making all six of his foul shots.
Freshman guard Jean Luc Wilson (East Moline, Ill./United Township) scored 14, and sophomore forward James Jones (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) added 13 points for Sandburg, which was able to extend a 42-37 halftime lead.
Freshman forward Cody Baer (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) scored 10 first-half points and finished with 12 on 6-of-7 shooting. Sophomore Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) also scored 12 points, and sophomore forward Noah Young (Colfax, Ill./Ridgeview) added 11.
The Cyclones (2-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Chris Harrison’s game-high 21 points.
